The Met Office Weather Widget

At the moment econnexus.org are based just outside the city of Exeter in the UK. A few years ago the UK Government Meteorological Office relocated to Exeter, and as keen surfers what the weather is going to do is of immense interest to us. We thought we'd start there for our very first data mining expedition.

At the end of last year the UK Cabinet Office Digital Engagement blog announced that the Met Office had just released its very first Weather Widget.  From here in Exeter we most frequently find ourselves surfing one of the beaches near Bude in North Cornwall. We're especially keen to know when the wind is going to be offshore on the north coast of South West England. Here is the custom widget we came up with, displayed free of charge here on our very own website, courtesy of the UK Government:

We did have to agree to some small print before getting hold of the script that displays the wind at Bude. Apparently if we are ever fortunate enough that this page gets more than 100,000 impressions per day we will need to discuss commercial terms.
